Graduated University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University School of Social Work. Worked at Payne Whitney Psychiatric Hospital in NYC until 1977. Moved to St. Louis Missouri and became Director of St Louis Child and Adolescent Psychiatric State Hospital. In 1985 moved to San Diego and hired as Hospital Administrator of San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital. Retired in 2008 after 7 years as CEO/COO of Sharp Mesa Vista Psychiatric Hospital. In 2009 married Jay Shaffer, MD, a San Diego psychiatrist. One wedding ceremony was conducted in Peru by Incan Shaman on the way to Machu Picchu; the other in San Diego. Have had opportunity to travel extensively to Europe China, Egypt, Syria, Tanzania, Kenya, Galapagos, New Zealand and Nepal. Active as hiking outings leader for San Diego Sierra Club.
